Home for Honeybee Cloths is inland, but I love hiking along sections of the South West Coast path when I can, and regularly drift off to sleep dreaming of Godrevy and the seals, Hayle beach, Formby Point, Dungeness, and all the other lovely places where our shores meet the sea.
In mid June I begun making a quilt for a very special somone, who's served in the Sea Cadets and Royal Navy Reserve for almost 50 years! So I visualised a quilt inspired by the sea; ships, shoals of fish, navy blues and fresh salty sea air.....
It just had to be made from Janet Clare's gorgeous Hearty Good Wishes!
The Jelly Turnover Quilt top pattern by Shannon Mower on Moda Bakeshop, uses just one Hearty Good Wishes Charm pack, plus a White Moda Bella Solids jelly roll, a White Moda Charm Pack, and a few remants or a mini-charm pack for the little squares. Plus Shannon's pattern and super clear instructions meant it pieced together very quickly.
For the quilting, the "wonky straight line" stitch on my little Brother machine, seemed just right to give the effect of waves. Quilting horizontally across the quilt in straight lines made it easy for my small domestic machine to handle. I really enjoyed quilting this one by machine - it's incredibly fast!
Hearty Good Wishes No.1354-20 was used for the backing, and Gutermann thread Col. 1071 blended perfectly with the creamy off-white backing. (We still have a little Hearty Good Wishes No.1354-20 and No.1356-27 used for binding).
Also the really wonderful news I've been bursting to share is that More Hearty Good Wishes is on order for delivery in spring 2015! Including pre-cuts - charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes and, yardage and a really gorgeous quilt kit and pattern by Janet Clare - we can't wait! More photos to follow soon.
