Summer is nearly here - so it seems like a good time for some "skinny dipping sewing"! Each row or strip in the 4 month Quilt-along measures 36" or 90cm wide. So by the end of the Quilt-along, the strips can be sewn together to make a strippy quilt. There'll be opportunity to do applique and folded patchwork too.

The first block in the Skinny Dipping Quilt-along is so easy - the beach hut unit is very quick to make. You'll find full instructions here. But here is the shortened version....

Sew the beach hut units together and before you know it you'll have a neat row of sweet little beach huts!

Lewis & Irene's Waves print runs across the width of the fabric, from selvedge to selvedge. Cutting it as a Skinny Quarter (25cm x 110cm) makes it perfect for the waves behind the beach huts. It comes in three colourways too, so as well as the white waves version above, we made a Sea blue strip and an aqua version too...

Once your strip of neat little beach huts is complete, applique some bunting, using bondaweb and running stitch to outline the string of bunting. Perhaps machine sew the outline of a plank door and add a little button for the door handle. Or personalise your beach huts – the world’s your oyster!

We'd love to see your beach huts, so please feel free to share them on Honeybee Cloths Facebook page. Also remember to "like and share" on Facebook or if your not on Facebook leave us a comment below, and you'll be entered into our draw to win a Coastal Skinny Quarter bundle.

The next block will be here on 1st June, so till then happy sewing x

While Honeybee Cloths is inland, we love being near the sea. So the delivery of 15 bolts of Coastal really brought the seaside home to us - we can see this made into bunting, quilts, lightweight curtains for beach huts!

Coastal is made by lovely Dorset based company Lewis & Irene. Each print is so thoughtfully designed, even the moto on the selvedges - "threaded with love" speaks of the care which goes into making of Lewis & Irene's 100% cottons.

Coastal's seaside motifs make several prints perfect for fussy cut piecing, (oh love those little seahorses)

Coastal also blends with several solids including: Moda Solids Linen, Sweetwater's Splash, RJR's Cotton Supreme Cottons Sea Glass.

Coastal also combines perfectly with Bonnie & Camille's Daysail - pretty navy on white crosshatch No. 55106 13 and fresh aqua stripes on white No. 55102 22

Cut fresh from the bolt, and in Fat Eighth bundles, Fat Quarter bundles, and even Skinny Quarters bundles. More on those very soon, plus a competition in the making!

Happy sewing x

Home for Honeybee Cloths is inland, but I love hiking along sections of the South West Coast path when I can, and regularly drift off to sleep dreaming of Godrevy and the seals, Hayle beach, Formby Point, Dungeness, and all the other lovely places where our shores meet the sea.

In mid June I begun making a quilt for a very special somone, who's served in the Sea Cadets and Royal Navy Reserve for almost 50 years! So I visualised a quilt inspired by the sea; ships, shoals of fish, navy blues and fresh salty sea air.....

It just had to be made from Janet Clare's gorgeous Hearty Good Wishes!

The Jelly Turnover Quilt top pattern by Shannon Mower on Moda Bakeshop, uses just one Hearty Good Wishes Charm pack, plus a White Moda Bella Solids jelly roll, a White Moda Charm Pack, and a few remants or a mini-charm pack for the little squares. Plus Shannon's pattern and super clear instructions meant it pieced together very quickly.

For the quilting, the "wonky straight line" stitch on my little Brother machine, seemed just right to give the effect of waves. Quilting horizontally across the quilt in straight lines made it easy for my small domestic machine to handle. I really enjoyed quilting this one by machine - it's incredibly fast!

Hearty Good Wishes No.1354-20 was used for the backing, and Gutermann thread Col. 1071 blended perfectly with the creamy off-white backing. (We still have a little Hearty Good Wishes No.1354-20 and No.1356-27 used for binding).

Also the really wonderful news I've been bursting to share is that More Hearty Good Wishes is on order for delivery in spring 2015! Including pre-cuts - charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes and, yardage and a really gorgeous quilt kit and pattern by Janet Clare - we can't wait! More photos to follow soon.

If you'd like us to let you know when More Hearty Good Wishes is in store, or would like to pre-order, please email via the Contact form, typing "More Hearty " or "HGW PRE-ORDER"

We'd love to see the projects you made from Janet Clare's beautiful Hearty Good Wishes, so please feel free to email or share on our Facebook page or Honeybee Cloths Twitter.

Stay snug and happy sewing x
